We were very fortunate to have Bristol Flyers guard, Corey Samuels in clinic recently. Corey is a professional basketball player in the British Basketball League.
The flyers had a record setting season, with a 25-11 record finishing third in the league. They narrowly missed out on the finals by 3 points to the Leicester Riders in the semi finals of the playoffs.

After a gruelling season, and a short rest, Corey is back training hard for his third season as a pro hooper in the off season. He came in clinic for some maintenance work on his body. After getting him to autograph a jersey, we went through some assessments to see which areas of the body require some work. Naturally, as a basketball player our focus was on his legs. Basketball is a very high impact sport, plus Corey's playing style, which includes intense defence and high flying acrobatics, means it would be impossible to not have some muscular tension somewhere! Our assessments revealed some tension in his soleus and hip flexors. So we used some various massage and compression techniques, along with MET's which are essentially stretching methods to increase range of motion. Finally, after some quick photo opportunities. We created a stretching routine for him to take home using the software 'Rehab My Patient'. For him to continue his treatment at home.

We want to say a huge thank you to Corey for dropping in, and were pleased that he is was happy with his treatment. As a former recreational basketball player, and professional athlete myself. I understand the importance of injury treatment and maintenance. The Sport Clinic is pleased to be a small part of an athletes journey. If you are an athlete whether professional or not and would like help maintaining your body, please book an appointment or contact us for more details on how we can help you.
