On Tuesday the 7th of November I visited Fishponds Old Boys FC, who train out of Winterbourne International Academies grounds, to present them with an injury prevention & treatment workshop.
The aim of the workshop is to equip the players with information and protocols that will aid their decision making and training to reduce the risk of getting injured in the first place, and reduce the amount of time they spend recovering from injury and get back to sport as safely and quickly as possible.
The workshop covered-
Order of warm up modalities: What to do in your warm up, and in what order.
Indicators of injury risk: strength asymmetry, range of motion and movement functionality
Initial Injury protocols: your immediate options when an acute injury happens, to ice or not to ice,
Stages of rehab: range of motion, isometrics, proprioception, loading, strengthening, plyos
return to play indicators: what you need to be to perform for to return to play.
The team were warm and receptive, unlike the cold weather and rain that appeared halfway through the workshop. For this reason I kept it physical, actionable and fun. I had great positive feedback during and after the workshop from both players and management and have arranged a working relationship and return visit in the future.
If you are a member of a sports team or class and feel that you would benefit from the workshop, please contact me. I make the workshop specific to the sport or activity of its recipients to which I am delivering it too. If you are based within the Bristol and South Gloucestershire area- it is completely free.

A huge thank you to the team for their time.
